4 Tips For Dressing In Vintage Fashion
By: Jackie Clark

Vintage fashion
and make up is an opportunity to explore the beauty of past decades. Vintage garments are often modest, feminine and unique. Cancer patients will find a lot of comfort in vintage clothes, because they offer something different from modern fashions. Unique prints and feminine cuts feel special and beautiful.  Here are some tips for dressing in vintage fashion.

Shop Online Thrift Stores

Online thrift stores are an excellent way to broaden your options for clothing. When shopping locally you only have a few options. Online vintage shopping options are endless. Shopping online is also less stressful. If your doctor has ordered bed rest, then you can shop from your bed. A woman facing mesothelioma cancer complications from asbestos exposure may also find it is easier to shop in the comfort of their own space.

Dress For Your Figure

Dressing for your figure is important in vintage fashions. Dresses and tops are designed to flatter a certain type of body shape. Choose clothing that highlights your very best features. If you have a small waist, then buy dresses that cinch in at the waist. Mix various prints and colors to play up what you love about your body. Cancer doesn’t make you less sexy, so let that be visible to others through your clothing choices.

Make Up Application

Most women enjoy at least a little make up. It can enhance features and even out imperfections. The great thing about vintage make up is that it is usually very subtle. Women in the 50’s typically wore a little lipstick and some foundation. Marilyn Monroe famously wore just red lipstick and sometimes winged eyeliner. The simplicity of vintage make up styling allows you to still feel like yourself. It will help you feel comfortable in your own skin, cancer diagnosis and all.

Modifying Clothes

If necessary, modifying your clothing will be a big help. Taking in the shoulders or waist can alter distorted proportions of the garment. Sometimes hemming is necessary to reduce length on some vintage pieces. If you have had a mastectomy from a breast cancer diagnosis, then altering proportions can flatter your body a little better.

Always remember that you are a survivor and a warrior, no matter what prognosis is given. Vintage fashion and make up is just a tool to help you feel confident and beautiful. People will look at you on the street and see a strong woman, not someone that is sick and frail. Let your clothing choices express the joy you have in your day-to-day life, and you will reap the rewards.

snow on the path

so last weekend i played with my scanner for the first time.  after realizing that it was the coolest thing ever to stick i my face on it i really couldn't stop.  seriously i don't know how everyone doesn't just play with scanners all the time.

and then i realized that the scanner had incredible pattern-making capabilities.  I really think some of these images would make great shower curtains.  i'm not sure why, but i just think they need to be a shower curtain so i am going to see about having one printed.

also, i've got my first guest post ever coming up soon!  every exciting.  Jackie Clark from the Mesothelioma Cancer Alliance will be sharing some tips for dressing in vintage with us.
